Mixing Gas+oil, 40 to 1

I have a small Gas powered Weedeater, that I have to mix the gas and oil, at a ratio of 40 to 1.  Does that mean 40oz of gas to every 1oz of oil?  Thanks in advance!   ;)

Yes, that is correct.

40 oz gas + 1 oz oil
or
40 gallons gas + 1 gallon oil
or
40 teaspoons gas + 1 teaspoon oil

etc...
