amp hours to kWhrs

amp hours to kWhrs
by John Hammerstrom on 05/03/03 at 14:30:44

I have a 2.9 kW photovoltaic system on my house that is interconnected with the local utility. I also have 220 amp hour battery bank (8 six volt batteries, for a 48 volt system).

I'm very aware of the energy usage in my house, and we typically produce around 12 kWhrs of power each day and consume around the same. While I'm producing more than I'm using, the meter runs backwards, and it runs in the normal direction when I'm consuming more than I produce (like at night). My batteries store 220 amp hours, as stated. The batteries are there for use if the utility power fails, otherwise the PV system and the utility power keep the batteries on a trickle charge.

The question is, when that energy is converted by the inverter from DC to AC, what would be (if the conversion is possible) the equivalent number of kWhrs that the 220 amp hours represents?

Thank you.

John

The formula is fairly straight-forward.

kilowatthours = (amphours * voltage) / 1000

220 * 48 / 1000 = 10.56 kilowatthours
