I am trying desperately to calculate how many acre feet I am using if I put 4 inches of water down on 4.4 acres?? Help!

1 ac-ft equals 43560 cubic feet.  1 acre equals 43560 square feet.  If you multiply 4.4 acres by 43560 square feet you get 191664 square feet.  If you convert 4 inches to feet you get 0.33 feet.  You can then find out a volume by multiplying 0.33 feet by 191664 square feet giving you 63249.12 cubic feet.  Since 1 acre-feet equals 43560 cubic feet you can then divide 63249.12 cubic feet by 43560 cubic feet and get 1.452 acre-feet.
You can get the conversions from http://www.srh.noaa.gov/wgrfc/convert.html#volume

First use the Area conversion page to convert the base units to the same, such as inches.

4.4 acre = 27,599,616 square inch

Then calculate the total volume.

27,599,616 square inches * 4 inches = 110,398,464 cubic inches.

Then use the volume conversion page to convert cubic inches to acre-feet.

110,398,464 cubic inch = 1.467 acre foot

Similiar to the method Tyler used, except he calculate cubic feet and I used cubic inches.
