What could this be?

:)We are doing what is called a "sludge test" in science class. The sludge is just a mixture of different things.

Well I separated these little round dark brown balls. And when you hold them they get your hands all brown.

Any ideas what this could be???

If you can help that would be great beacuse I'm not doing to well on my own.  :P

Could it be a hard candy of some sort?  Maybe even brown sugar?

I have never done anything like that in science class. I wouldn't know where to start.

You don't say how large or where the sludge is from but possibilities include chocolate, rabbit faeces( or other rodent?),  seeds or some man made substance.  I suggest getting a friend to have a little nibble  ;)
